Following vandalism, Nixa High School removes bathroom soap dispensers

Nixa High School administration has removed soap dispensers from student

Nixa High School administration has removed soap dispensers from student bathrooms following months of vandalism, including urination inside of the dispensers.

According to Nixa High School Principal David Kelly, vandalism of bathrooms at the high school began during the fall, including dispensers being removed and at least one student urinating in a dispenser.

The administration removed soap dispensers from three of the 14 bathrooms in the school. As a solution, hand sanitizer dispensers were placed outside of these bathrooms so cameras can discourage students from vandalizing them.

Kelly said the school had difficulties finding soap dispensers or parts to replace the broken or stolen ones due to supply chain issues.

"Overall, we have really great students, but a few students have ruined it for the masses," Kelly said. "We are working to get back to normal and have bathrooms with dispensers, but until we can ensure that they will be safe for students, we have to take alternative measures."

This type of vandalism is not unique to Nixa High School. School districts across the country are experiencing similar acts, inspired by a TikTok challenge that went viral during the fall 2021 semester.

The "Devious Licks Challenge" encourages students to record themselves vandalizing or stealing school property, often to the song "Ski Ski BasedGod" by Lil B. Many students in other parts of the country have been arrested for their involvement in challenge videos.

When users search "Devious Licks Challenge" on TikTok, the platform provides them with information about how to identify harmful challenges. TikTok encourages users to stop, think, decide and act before participating in an online challenge.
